Go Near God
Last updated: March 23, 2026  ·  Effective date: March 23, 2026

Go Near God is a faith-based mobile application that provides personalized devotionals, spiritual moments, optional community groups, and subscription plans (Go Near God Premium, Go Near God Pro). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our iOS and Android application. It is designed to meet the requirements of the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, as well as applicable data protection laws.

By using Go Near God, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.

1. Who Is Responsible for Your Data

The data controller responsible for your personal data in connection with the Go Near God app is:

Phase One, LLC
Contact: email our privacy team

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

  • Account information: When you create an account, we collect your email address and, if you choose, your name. You may sign in with email and password, Google, or Apple; for social sign-in we receive the identifiers and profile information those providers share with us under their policies.
  • Profile and preferences: Name (optional), Bible translation preference, relationship stage, notification settings (e.g., reminder times, quiet hours), appearance/theme preferences, and optional text-to-speech (voice) settings.
  • Spiritual moments and stored activity: Text you type and AI-generated responses in the app's moments (e.g., Rise & Shine, Morning JO, Afternoon Tea, Evening Surrender) are stored in Firestore under your user account, including records in your interactions collection. For Afternoon Tea, we store conversation turns (your messages and companion replies) for the ongoing experience, not only a summary. We also maintain a private living summary and related AI memory fields (e.g., short prose and optional guidance metadata) to personalize future sessions. Favorites reference content you choose to save.
  • Voice input: Where voice input is enabled, audio is recorded on your device, encoded, and sent to our Firebase Cloud Functions, which call OpenAI (Whisper) to produce text. We process the resulting text like other inputs. We do not keep raw audio in your Firestore profile after transcription; audio is transmitted only to perform that step. Microphone use requires your permission on the device.
  • Favorites and groups: Content you save as favorites, and posts or reactions you add in private groups. Other members of a group can see your display name, posts, and reactions in that group. Your private moments, living summary, and full account details are not shown as such to other members. If you leave a group (including via Reset Memory), posts you already shared may remain visible to remaining members unless the group is removed or content is otherwise deleted.

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Device and app context: Device type, OS, app version, timezone-related data used to schedule notifications, and similar data needed to run the app.
  • Firebase Analytics: We use Google Firebase Analytics (e.g., app open at launch). Additional analytics events may be added over time. You can limit ad-related analytics where your device or OS allows (see Google / Apple privacy settings).
  • Operational logging (configurable): Our backend configuration can include flags such as whether to log user input or AI responses for support or debugging. Defaults in app code treat these as off; if enabled in configuration, logging would be limited to operational needs and this policy.
  • Push notifications: If you opt in, we use Firebase Cloud Messaging with a device token and your in-app notification preferences.
  • Optional biometric sign-in: If you enable it, sign-in helpers may be stored locally on your device (e.g., secure storage) and are not uploaded as a separate "biometric template" to our servers.

2.3 Subscription and Payments

  • Plans: Go Near God Premium and Go Near God Pro (and free trial where offered) are managed with RevenueCat and the app stores. We receive and store subscription status, tier, trial/paid dates, and related identifiers (e.g., RevenueCat customer ID) in Firestore to control feature access.
  • We do not store full payment card numbers; payments are processed by Apple and Google per their terms.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide the app: Accounts, profiles, moments, favorites, groups, and subscriptions.
  • AI and personalization: Send your inputs, conversation context as stored, living summary, prompts, and configuration to OpenAI through Firebase Cloud Functions (API keys stay server-side) to generate text and, where enabled, text-to-speech audio. OpenAI processes data under its policies; we do not use your data to train public models where our vendor terms prohibit that use.
  • Improve reliability: Analytics, error handling, and optional operational logging as described above.
  • Communicate: Push notifications you opt into and service-related messages where applicable.
  • Security and compliance: Protect against abuse, enforce terms, and meet legal obligations.

4. Third-Party Services and Data Sharing

We use the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy.

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only as described above or when required by law.

5. Crisis Detection and Resource Referrals

Go Near God includes safeguards that may detect content suggesting a mental health or safety crisis (e.g., self-harm, abuse, addiction). When our systems identify such content, the app may respond with supportive language and referrals to professional resources (e.g., 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, National Domestic Violence Hotline, SAMHSA National Helpline). We are not a substitute for professional care.

  • What we do: Crisis protocols are used to shape the in-the-moment response and referral; we do not describe separate "crisis files" or third-party sharing for marketing.
  • If you are in crisis: Use the resources in the app or contact a professional immediately.

6. Data Retention and Security

  • Retention: We keep account, profile, interactions, living summary, favorites, and group-related data while your account exists and as needed to provide the service.
  • Reset Memory (in-app): Settings → Reset Memory permanently deletes your favorites, interactions (including stored conversation turns), resets your living summary and related AI memory fields, removes you from groups (and may delete empty groups you created), and clears certain local preferences tied to those features. It does not delete your account, email, or full profile; it does not remove past group posts that remain after you leave a group with other members still in it.
  • Sign out: Signing out ends the session on the device but does not delete data stored in the cloud.
  • Account deletion (in-app): You may delete your account from Settings → Delete Account (under ACCOUNT). The flow explains what will be removed and may ask you to sign in again to confirm your identity (for example, if your session has expired). Deletion removes your Firebase Authentication account and your Firestore user data, including favorites, interactions, usage records, pregenerated content (if any), and your group membership; it may delete groups you created that have no other members and their posts. Local data on your device may be cleared as part of the flow. Stopping subscription billing is separate: manage or cancel in-app purchases through your Apple or Google account settings as needed. You may also contact our support team for account or data requests (we typically process within 30 days where applicable, except where law requires retention).
  • Security: We use encryption in transit, authentication, and provider-standard safeguards appropriate to the data we process.

7. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, port, or restrict processing of your personal data.

  • In the app: Update profile and preferences in Settings; use Reset Memory to clear AI memory, favorites, interactions, and group membership as described in Section 6; use Delete Account (under ACCOUNT) to remove your account and associated cloud data as described in Section 6.
  • Deletion of your account: Use Settings → Delete Account, or contact us if you need help. We will honor applicable legal requirements.
  • Living summary: Cleared by Reset Memory; you may also request help via the contact link below.
  • Marketing: We do not send marketing email without consent; disable push notifications in the app or device settings.

We will respond within the time required by applicable law. EEA/UK users may complain to a supervisory authority.

Apple and Google: Use their account and privacy tools for data tied to your device or store account.

Do Not Track: We do not respond to DNT signals in a distinct way; state privacy laws may provide additional opt-outs as applicable.

8. Children's Privacy

Go Near God is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it as required (e.g., COPPA).

9. International Data Transfers

Our services and providers (e.g., Firebase, OpenAI) may process data in the United States and other countries. Where required, we use appropriate transfer mechanisms (e.g., standard contractual clauses).

10. California and Other U.S. State Rights

California residents may have rights under the CCPA/CPRA (know, delete, correct, limit sensitive use, opt out of sale/sharing). We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. To exercise rights, contact us.

Other states may grant similar rights; we will honor them as applicable.

11. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this policy. We will post the updated version in the app (e.g., Settings, About, or legal links) and update the Last updated date. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the update; material changes may include additional notice where appropriate.
